Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has denied claims by former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that both men initiated discussions on forming an opposition coalition.

Amaechi, during a conversation on an 𝕏 Space session on Saturday, reportedly stated that he and Fayemi began talks on creating the coalition before involving other politicians. “Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so that it would involve more than just the two of us talking about starting a new party,” Amaechi was quoted as saying.

In a swift response on Sunday, Fayemi’s Media Office, through its head, Ahmad Sajoh, dismissed the claim as “false and misleading.”

Sajoh suggested the possibility that Amaechi was misquoted, adding, “In this era where fabricated or distorted statements are being attributed to public figures, Dr. Fayemi remains cautious about engaging in manufactured controversies designed to provoke or profit.”

The statement reaffirmed Fayemi’s commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that he has consistently demonstrated loyalty to the party in both words and actions.

“At various public forums, he has affirmed his dedication to the APC, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed,” Sajoh said.

The clarification comes amid ongoing political realignments and speculation about opposition movements ahead of Nigeria’s next general elections.
