The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Tuesday visited the Kaduna residence of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari to offer condolences to his family.

Sanusi arrived around 1:00 p.m. and was received by Buhari’s widow, Aisha Buhari, and their son, Yusuf. He was accompanied by senior members of the Kano Emirate Council and palace aides.

During the visit, the Emir prayed for the repose of the late president’s soul and described him as “a statesman of deep conviction, discipline, and national service.”

“We are here on behalf of the Kano Emirate and the good people of Kano to sympathise with the family and offer our prayers,” Sanusi said, urging the family to remain strong and take comfort in Buhari’s legacy.

He praised Buhari’s leadership, noting that his commitment to national service earned him respect both in Nigeria and abroad.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a two-term civilian President from 2015 to 2023, died recently following a brief illness. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Sanusi’s visit is one of many by prominent traditional and political figures paying tribute to the late former president.
