Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has opened up about the profound impact of losing his close friend and frequent collaborator, Mohbad, saying the tragedy changed his perspective on life.
Speaking during a recent livestream with TikToker Joblaq, Bella Shmurda revealed that he is currently in a phase of rediscovery following Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023. “RIP Mohbad. After he passed away my brain reset, everything changed. The way I see things in life also changed,” he said.
He added, “There’s a time that our parents use to tell us when we misbehave that, ‘You’re misbehaving, right? Don’t worry, very soon you will understand.’ I’m currently in that phase where I’m starting to understand. I have understood certain things.”
Meanwhile, Bella Shmurda has come under fire from fellow Nigerian singer Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola. The controversy stems from Bella Shmurda’s recent interview on the Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, where he explained why he would not collaborate with Portable. He cited a lack of musical connection and hinted at Portable’s controversial lifestyle, saying, “I just don’t see the connection in the music. I don’t want wahala, I want peace.”
In response, Portable took to Instagram to criticize Bella Shmurda, calling him a “failed musician” and claiming he does not collaborate with failures. He also warned Bella Shmurda never to mention his name again, asserting that Bella could never match his level of fame and global influence.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions in the Nigerian music scene, with fans reacting strongly to the clash between the two artists.
