The female pilot at the centre of the controversy involving Fuji legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, and ValueJet has been identified as Captain Oluranti Ogoyi.
According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the incident occurred after KWAM1 allegedly brought an alcoholic drink onboard a commercial flight, in breach of aviation regulations. The altercation reportedly disrupted the flight, prompting the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to place the Mayegun of Yorubaland on a six-month flight ban.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, condemned the musician’s conduct, calling it “unacceptable” and warning that such behaviour could have ended in tragedy.
KWAM1, however, denied the allegations through his spokesperson, Kunle Rasheed, insisting the flask in question contained only water. He described the claims as exaggerated and misleading, arguing that he was the victim, not the aggressor.
Captain Oluranti, daughter of former Osun Central senator Felix Kola Ogunwale, is an accomplished pilot with nearly a decade of experience. She began her career with Arik Air before joining ValueJet, earning her full captain rank in September 2021.
Married to fellow pilot Isaac Ogoyi Jr., who now flies for Uganda Airlines, Oluranti is widely respected among colleagues for her skill and professionalism.
