Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims that he is “finished politically,” declaring that he will speak out at the right time and play a decisive role in the 2027 general elections.

Responding on Thursday to a social media user who mocked him as politically irrelevant and hiding “behind other people’s ink to write and their mouth to talk,” El-Rufai fired back:

“In your dreams… when the time comes for me to speak, you will eat your words… save this tweet, and check on 1st March, 2027 in sha Allah,” he posted on 𝕏.

El-Rufai, now a leading figure in the opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu, has been vocal in recent weeks about what he describes as the ruling All Progressives Congress’ (APC) failures.

Speaking to youths in Sokoto during a mobilisation campaign, he accused the APC of incompetence and clannishness, warning that its continued grip on power threatens Nigeria’s unity.

“It is my duty as a senior citizen to speak out when a government stops serving its people — and to act to reverse the situation,” he said. “In 2027, Nigerians must rise and vote out the APC before it plunges this country into deeper division.”

El-Rufai’s remarks signal his readiness to confront the party he once helped bring to power, as the opposition coalition ramps up its preparations for the next presidential race.
