President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Reconciliation Team, tasked with mending internal party rifts and strengthening unity ahead of future political contests.
The appointment, announced on Sunday, is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the party’s base following months of internal disagreements across several state chapters. According to the Presidency, the team’s mandate includes engaging aggrieved members, resolving lingering disputes, and fostering collaboration among party stakeholders nationwide.
In his remarks, Speaker Abbas pledged to approach the role with fairness and inclusivity. “The APC is stronger when we are united. I will work closely with leaders at all levels to restore trust and build the consensus we need for the party’s continued success,” he said.
Party insiders view the reconciliation effort as critical to the APC’s preparations for upcoming governorship elections and its long-term political stability.
The reconciliation team is expected to begin consultations immediately, with a series of stakeholder meetings planned in key political zones.
