Seven countries have been eliminated from the ongoing CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), narrowing the field as the competition heads into its decisive stages.
The latest casualties are Guinea and Niger Republic, who both failed to secure crucial wins in their Group C fixtures on Friday. Guinea played out a 1-1 draw against Algeria, while Niger fell to a 3-1 defeat against South Africa.
The results leave Guinea in fourth place in the group with four points from four matches, while Niger sit bottom with just one point from three games, with only one match left to play.
Uganda currently lead the group with six points from three games, followed closely by Algeria and South Africa, who both have five points from three games.
Guinea and Niger now join Nigeria, the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, Zambia, and Angola on the list of teams eliminated from the tournament.
The CHAN, which features only players active in their home countries’ leagues, is moving into a crucial stage where each result could determine the path to the championship.
