Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has called on Nigerians to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu for local development failures and instead hold their state governors responsible.
In a post shared via his social media handle, Omokri said governors are now receiving significantly more federal allocations than they did under former President Muhammadu Buhari—yet many of them have little to show for it.
“There is no governor in Nigeria who is not now under President Tinubu receiving at least double, and in some cases triple, the federal allocation they previously received under General Buhari,” Omokri wrote. “And yet, some Nigerians will leave their governors to blame Tinubu. This ‘All Eyes on Tinubu, none on my Governor’ syndrome is why you suffer.”
Omokri stressed that issues such as lack of potable water, poor road conditions, substandard public schools, and dirty markets fall squarely under the responsibility of state and local governments—not the President.
“If you have no water, that’s your governor’s responsibility,” he said. “If your schools are failing and your roads are collapsing, look to your governor and local council chairman.”
Defending Tinubu’s record at the federal level, Omokri listed several achievements: the drop in Nigeria’s public debt from $113.7 billion to $97 billion, a ₦16.9 trillion trade surplus, improved electricity generation with a peak of 5,801.84 MW in March 2025, and a 3.84% economic growth rate.
He also cited a boost in private sector hiring, no strikes by university lecturers since Tinubu took office, and positive credit ratings upgrades by Fitch and Moody’s. He praised ongoing infrastructure projects, including the ₦15 trillion Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the ₦13 trillion Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway.
“Tinubu is effectively doing his job,” Omokri concluded. “But what has your governor done to lift you from poverty? You didn’t only vote for Tinubu. You voted for your governor too. Hold him accountable.”
