The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that its pipeline network is now operating at near-optimal efficiency, marking a major breakthrough in the company’s ongoing reforms to secure energy infrastructure and curb crude oil theft.
Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, disclosed this development while providing updates on the company’s operations. He said years of investment in security technology, community engagement, and infrastructure upgrades are paying off, with the company recording unprecedented efficiency levels in pipeline transportation.
“Today, we can confidently say that our pipeline network is nearing 100 percent efficiency. This is a milestone that has not been achieved in over two decades, and it reflects the collective efforts of our team, our partners, and the host communities,” Kyari stated.
He noted that the drastic reduction in vandalism and illegal tapping of pipelines has restored confidence in the sector, improving crude supply to refineries and ensuring stable distribution of petroleum products across the country.
According to him, the company is also leveraging digital monitoring systems and collaborations with security agencies to sustain the achievement and guarantee uninterrupted flow of crude oil and gas to support Nigeria’s energy needs.
Energy experts have described the development as a boost to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, noting that improved pipeline efficiency will cut costs, enhance revenues, and support the country’s broader economic recovery plans.
The NNPCL GCEO reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and long-term energy security, stressing that sustained efficiency in pipeline operations will remain a priority as Nigeria strengthens its position in the global energy market.
