The announcement was made by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during her funeral service on Saturday at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja. The ceremony was attended by top government officials, civil servants, family members, and friends who gathered to celebrate her life and contributions to the nation.
Wike said the President’s directive was a demonstration of gratitude for Adayilo’s sacrifices and an effort to ease the burden on her family. “President Tinubu directed that her four children be given automatic employment. This is in recognition of her selfless contributions to the FCT and the civil service,” the minister stated.
Dr. Adayilo, widely respected across the civil service, rose through the ranks to become the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, a role in which she championed reforms to improve efficiency, transparency, and staff welfare. She was credited with initiating policies that streamlined administrative processes and strengthened accountability within the FCT administration.
Colleagues and subordinates described her as a visionary leader whose dedication went beyond routine service. She was known for mentoring young civil servants, encouraging capacity building, and insisting on merit-based promotions. Many at the service recalled her insistence on discipline, fairness, and professionalism, values they said redefined workplace culture in the FCT service.
Family members, friends, and associates paid glowing tributes during the funeral, recalling her personal warmth and her ability to balance a demanding career with family life. Speakers highlighted her humility despite her high office, as well as her commitment to community service outside the workplace.
Dr. Adayilo was also remembered for her advocacy for women in leadership within the civil service. She consistently encouraged female officers to pursue career growth and take up senior roles, leaving a legacy of empowerment for future generations.
Her death, mourners agreed, was a monumental loss not only to her immediate family but also to the FCT and Nigeria at large. Many described her passing as leaving behind “a vacuum difficult to fill,” especially at a time when reforms in the civil service are regarded as crucial to national development.
The announcement of automatic employment for her children was met with appreciation and relief from the family, who expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the FCT Administration for their support during the difficult period.
As the service concluded, prayers were offered for the repose of her soul and for strength for her children and loved ones. The ceremony closed with calls for civil servants and public officials to emulate Adayilo’s example of integrity, hard work, and devotion to duty.
