Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has cautioned that his side face a tough challenge when they host Crystal Palace in their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Maresca pointed to Palace’s recent high-profile triumphs as evidence of their threat. The Eagles defeated Manchester City to lift the FA Cup last season and overcame Liverpool last weekend to win the Community Shield.
“Sunday’s game will be very difficult,” Maresca said. “In two finals, they beat two of the best teams in England in the last fifteen years. So it shows how complicated it’ll be on Sunday.”
Chelsea will be aiming to build momentum in their league campaign, but Maresca’s remarks suggest full respect for a Palace side riding on confidence after their cup successes.
