The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has described the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as the ultimate losers in the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
Speaking on Saturday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, reacted to a court ruling affecting Saturday’s by-elections. The statement followed celebrations by Interim National Chairman Nenadi Usman and her supporters, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) withdrew recognition from Julius Abure, citing a Federal High Court decision on August 15, 2025.
Ifoh accused Usman and her camp of manipulating opposition forces and questioned the motives behind their jubilation. “Are they not playing into the hands of the opposition? Who benefits from all of this saga? Who is the loser? Are Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti not actually the losers in all of these?” he asked.
He further criticized Usman for recycling the same counter-affidavit, calling it “infantile” and dismissing the celebrations as “amounting to nothing.” Ifoh emphasized the party’s importance, noting that it provided a platform and hope for Obi and Otti when they were “frustrated by other political parties.”
The statement reflects growing tensions within the LP, highlighting a leadership struggle that continues to divide members ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
